If you witness a person acting in an odd or unusual manner or if a person or situation makes you feel uneasy, trust your instincts and report it.

  • Do not physically confront the person.
  • Do not let anyone into a locked building or office.
  • Do not block the person’s access to an exit.
  • Call 9-1-1. Provide as much information as possible about the person and his or her direction of travel.

Virginia Tech Threat Assessment Team

Consider another resource for dealing with safety concerns: the Threat Assessment Team. Its mission is to determine if an individual may pose a threat of violence to self, others, or the Virginia Tech community and to intervene when there is a threat. The team supports students, employees, visitors, as well as non-affiliated persons to increase safety and security at Virginia Tech.
