Clayton Oliver

Clayton joined Virginia Tech Emergency Managament in 2024 as a senior emergency coordinator and currently serves as the department's assistant director.  Like most emergency managers, Clayton had another career before entering his current field; unlike most, his was in technical writing and project requirements analysis in the software industry.  He found his emergency management calling in 2013 with Lexington, Kentucky's county/metro agency, then shifted to the higher education sector to serve the campus communities of the University of Kentucky and Iowa State University before returning to his native southeast. 

Clayton holds a bachelor of arts in english from Western Kentucky University, a master of science in safety, security, and emergency management from Eastern Kentucky University, and the Certified Emergency Manager credential from the International Association of Emergency Managers.
