Andrew began his career with Virginia Tech in 2007, and is currently the Executive Director for Emergency Management. Andrew is a Certified Emergency Manager through the International Association of Emergency Managers, a graduate of Harvard’s Crisis Leadership in Higher Education program, and a graduate of FEMA’s National Emergency Management Executive Academy. Within Virginia Tech Emergency Management (VTEM), Andrew is responsible for the emergency management department, supporting the emergency management team, and the implementation of the emergency management program at Virginia Tech.

Andrew’s professional experience includes working for the Savannah River National Laboratory in Aiken County, SC, the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, VA, and the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute prior to joining VTEM in 2013.

Andrew holds a master’s degree in systems engineering from Virginia Tech, and bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and fire science from Lake Superior State University. He is also working towards a Ph.D. in environmental design and planning from Virginia Tech. Andrew is a volunteer member of both the Blacksburg Fire Department and the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad and is certified as Firefighter II, EMT Basic, and Hazardous Materials Technician. Andrew was a founding member of the Southwest Virginia All-Hazards Incident Management Team (Type III), and the Chair of the Board for the team from 2016 through 2022.
